Winifred Holtby & Wilfred Owen in New Exhibition

In the run up to the centenary of the end of World War One, Scarborough is stepping into the fray with two fascinating exhibitions at its celebrated Art Gallery.

Scarborough Art Gallery, found in The Crescent (Scarborough’s answer to the architecture of Bath!), has just launched its summer exhibitions at it beautiful location, just a short walk from the Red Lea.

The new display celebrates the final year of war poet Wilfred Owen’s life (1917 to 1918), some of which was spent here in Scarborough.

The exhibition will explore his experiences, the people he met and the places he visited, and gauge how much all this shaped his poetical works.

And in tandem with this homage to Wilfred Owen, novelist and journalist Winifred Holtby, who penned South Riding, also features in an exhibition at the same venue.

Winifred’s short life (she died aged just 37) is explored in this display that is curated by photojournalist Lee Karen Stow.

Both exhibitions are available to view from 7th April to 2nd September 2018 inclusive.
